Volunteers play a vital role in supporting young people on the Spear Programme to unleash their potential.
Our volunteers tell us it’s a rewarding experience. Our trainees tell us it’s valuable and inspiring to meet and work with volunteers.
"I wanted to give something back to society - and having worked with children who've come from the care system, it's not a level playing field. A lot of young people face so many barriers when trying to get themselves a job. And I think that actually have a job does so much for somebody - it can give them confidence, a sense of purpose, a bit of independence. I enjoy helping with the mock interviews as interviews can be a huge obstacle - they be quite a barrier and really a nerve-wracking thing to do.
The mock interviews are a fantastic opportunity to put your best foot forward in a low pressure environment - and it's been really rewarding for me because you can see with the young people, even between the first and the second interview, their confidence takes leaps and bounds."

Spear trainees frequently tell us that having done mock interviews makes a huge difference when they encounter the real thing. To find out more about attending a Spear Celebration near you, see our events page.
